Dockside Skylights

Get a fixed written quote for your rooflight or skylight

Ask for a rooflight or skylight quote in Liverpool: tell us about the roof, we survey it, and you get a fixed written price before anything is ordered.

From your message to a written price

Getting a rooflight quote in Liverpool from us starts with the form on this page. Tell us which room you want light in, what the roof is like if you know, and roughly where you live. That is enough for us to get back to you.

  1. We reply and ask what we need. Usually a couple of questions about the roof and the room, and a time for a survey that suits you.
  2. We survey the roof. Our skylight survey covers the outside and the inside: pitch, covering, structure, access, and what is above the ceiling.
  3. What you receive is a written quote with the figure fixed. Every part of the job is listed, with options priced side by side where you have a real choice.
  4. You decide in your own time. Nothing is ordered until you accept in writing. If you go ahead, we agree a fitting date with you.

What happens at the survey

The survey is one visit to your house. Outside, we check the covering and the pitch and work out the safe way up, which might be a tower, edge protection or a scaffold. Inside, we look at where the window or rooflight will sit, measure the opening and check what is in the way: rafters or trusses, joists, cables, pipes and insulation. On a flat roof we check the covering and the falls, because a new kerb has to be weathered into them. For a replacement we look at the old unit, its frame and the timbers around it.

We also tell you about the paperwork while we are there. A new or replacement rooflight is notifiable under the Building Regulations, and we handle that notification. If planning or other consent could come into it, for example a front-facing window in a conservation area, a listed building or a flat, we say so on the day.

What the written quote covers

The quote names the exact unit, its size, the glazing and whether it opens. It sets out how we will get to the roof, any structural work, how the inside will be finished and the Building Control fee as its own line. Anything that cannot be seen until the roof is open is listed as a possibility with how we would handle it, so nothing turns up later as a surprise.

Once you accept it, the price is fixed. It only changes if you ask for something different, or if a hidden problem comes to light and you sign off the change beforehand. The costs page explains each part in more detail, and every job carries our 10-year workmanship guarantee.

What helps to have ready

None of this is essential, but it speeds things up.

  • A photo of the roof from outside, front or back
  • A photo of the ceiling or loft where the light will go
  • The old unit's size code or label, if it is a replacement
  • Whether you are in a conservation area, if you know
  • For flats, the name of your freeholder or managing agent
  • Any dates when a survey would not suit you

Photos are easiest on WhatsApp. Use the WhatsApp button on the page and send them straight from your phone, along with your name and postcode. We look at them before the survey so we arrive with the right questions, though we never give a final price from photos alone.

Where we can survey

Surveys reach roughly 30 miles by road from Liverpool, across Merseyside, the Wirral, West Lancashire, Wigan, Warrington, west Cheshire and into Flintshire. If you are unsure whether you are inside that, send the form anyway and we will tell you. The list of towns is on our areas we cover page.
