These terms apply when Dockside Skylights Liverpool ("we", "us") quotes for, supplies and installs or replaces a rooflight, roof window, roof lantern, sun tunnel or related product for you ("you"). They form part of our contract together with your written quote. If anything in your quote differs from these terms, the quote takes priority. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

About us

We work across our service area and have no public premises or office open to callers. Reach us on info@docksideskylightsliverpool.co.uk, or ring 0151 380 0761. Our full trading name and postal address for service of notices appear on every written quote and invoice.

Surveys and quotes

  • We give a price only after surveying the property. Any figure discussed before the survey is not an offer.
  • Our written quote sets out the products, the work included, the access method, the Building Control fee and any items that depend on what we find once the roof is opened.
  • A quote is valid for the period stated on it. After that, we may need to re-check product prices before confirming.
  • The contract is formed when you accept the quote in writing, by email, by signing it, or by message on WhatsApp.

The price and changes to the work

Once you accept, the quoted price is fixed for the work described. It can only change in two ways:

  • You ask for something different. We confirm the effect on the price in writing before doing it.
  • We find something that could not reasonably be seen at the survey, such as rotten timbers under the roof covering or hidden services in the opening. We halt that element, show you, set out the options and agree any change in writing before going ahead. If you choose not to proceed with the extra work, we make the roof weathertight and discuss how to complete or end the job fairly.

Your right to cancel

If you are a consumer and the contract is made at your home or elsewhere away from business premises, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel within 14 days without giving a reason. The 14 days start on the day after the contract is made. We give you a cancellation form with your quote, but you can cancel by any clear statement, such as an email.

  • If you cancel within the 14 days and no work has started, we refund any payment you have made within 14 days of being told, using the same payment method.
  • We will not start work, or order a made-to-measure product, within the cancellation period unless you expressly ask us to in writing.
  • If you ask us to start work within the cancellation period and then cancel, you pay for the work carried out up to the time you tell us, in proportion to the full contract.
  • If, at your written request, we order a product made to your specification during the cancellation period, you may lose the right to cancel the supply of that product, and you would be responsible for its cost. We tell you before ordering if this applies.
  • Once the work is fully completed at your request within the cancellation period, the right to cancel ends.

After the cancellation period, if you wish to cancel, we will charge only our reasonable costs already incurred, including any products ordered for you that cannot be returned, and we will give you a breakdown.

Payment

  • Any deposit, and when it is due, is shown on your quote. Deposits are only taken after the contract is formed.
  • The balance is due on completion of the work, as set out on the quote and invoice.
  • Where a job runs over several stages, any stage payments are agreed in writing in advance.
  • Products remain our property until paid for in full, but the risk in them passes to you once they are installed.

Your responsibilities

  • Giving us safe access to the property and the roof on the agreed dates, including any parking we need.
  • Clearing the room below the work, or letting us know if you need help moving furniture.
  • Telling us about anything we should know, such as known asbestos, cables or pipes, structural concerns or access restrictions.
  • Getting consents that belong to you: planning permission or listed building consent where needed, consent from the freeholder or management company if you live in a leasehold property, and agreement from neighbours if access is needed over their land. We explain at the survey when these are likely to apply.

Our responsibilities

  • We carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time and in line with current Building Regulations.
  • Products we supply will be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
  • Where work is notifiable, the notification goes from us to the local authority building control or a registered building control approver.
  • Where scaffold must stand on the highway, we arrange any licence needed from the council.
  • We protect floors and furniture, keep the roof weathertight at the end of each working day, and clean up when the job is finished.
  • We remove old units, packaging and waste from site.

Dates and delays

We agree a start date with you and keep you informed. Roof work depends on weather and safe access, and product lead times are set by manufacturers, so dates can move. If we expect a delay, we tell you as soon as we know. If a delay on our side becomes unreasonable, you may end the contract and receive a refund of any money paid for work not done.

Guarantee and product warranties

Our workmanship carries a 10-year guarantee from the date of completion, as described on our guarantee page and in the written certificate you receive. Products also carry the manufacturer's own warranty, which is separate from ours. Both are in addition to your legal rights.

If something is not right

If our work or a product we supply does not meet the standard the law requires, you are entitled under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to have us put it right or redo it within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you. If that is not possible, you may be entitled to a price reduction or, for goods, a refund in some cases. Please tell us as soon as you notice a problem, using our complaints procedure if needed.

Liability

  • We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
  • We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for existing defects in parts of the property we did not work on.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
  • If we are working for a business rather than a consumer, our liability for indirect or consequential loss is excluded, and our total liability is limited to the contract price, to the extent the law allows.

Personal information

We use your details as explained in our privacy policy.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be decided by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Wales, you may also bring proceedings in Wales. Before going to court, we would always prefer to resolve a disagreement through our complaints procedure and, if needed, alternative dispute resolution.
